1. What is SMART Satellite Broadband?
Broadband is the term used for any kind of fast Internet access which includes satellite broadband. SMART satellite broadband is designed to give a business or residential user instant Internet access 24 hours a day where ever you are within the foot print (coverage area) even at the remotes site you can imagine.
2. What are the benefits of SMART Satellite broadband?
It's fast - generally 10-20 times faster than your existing dial-up modem. A typical dial-up modem operates in the range of 30 to 50 kbit/s. SMART Satellite broadband connection operates at between 512 kbit/s and 1.5 Mbit/s, depending on the service you have selected. To give you an idea of the difference that this speed can make, a 3½ minute MP3 music file takes about 18 minutes to download using a 28.8 kbit/s dial-up modem but only about 20 seconds on a 1.5 Mbit/s broadband link. An email containing a family photo takes about 55 seconds at 28.8 kbit/s but only about 3 seconds on a 512 kbit/s link.
- It's always on. As long as your computer is switched on you can be connected to the Internet. This means that you do not waste time dialing up and waiting for your modem to connect you to the Internet every time you go online. You will not be subject to annoying busy signals and you will be less likely to experience drop outs.
- Your phone line is not tied up while using the Internet. There is no need for a second phone line.
- There are no additional dial-up charges to connect each time you use the service.
- You can link several computers to the Internet through the same connection – good for
multi-user offices or for the home.
- SMART satellite Broadband's high speed gives you access to applications that are either not feasible at the speed of a dial-up connection or just too slow. For example, SMART Satellite broadband can
a.
allow you to transfer large files of text or graphics at high speeds, |
b.
give you instant access to web pages, even those with large amounts of graphics that are typically very slow to download on a dial-up connection, |
c.
allow employees to telecommute, operating from their home or elsewhere with the same response speeds and level of security as if they were in their office, |
d.
make video conferencing faster, smoother and practical, save money by allowing a business to rationalize and centralize its servers. |
3. What can SMART Satellite broadband do for your business?
SMART Satellite Broadband can increase productivity by enabling the transfer of large data files directly from local offices to head offices located in other cities, or even other countries. Internet Banking for example provides Corporate and Enterprise to numerous flexibility and efficiency with online financial activities.
Employees can access better training opportunities using broadband by logging on to corporate intranets and the Internet to train for new product offerings or to refresh their knowledge on current products or services.
Businesses can use high-capacity Internet to track shipments and to seek out other export markets, enabling them to compete successfully with markets outside the province.
SMART Satellite Broadband allows businesses to conduct net-meetings using freeware solutions available to do face-to-face meetings using videoconferencing to discuss urgent decisions, minimizing travel costs for in-person meetings.
SMART Satellite Broadband is well suited for areas:
- Government and Military
- Education
- Oil and Gas
- Maritime and Cruise
- Plantations
- Constructions
- Mining and Forestry
- Enterprise
- Home users

Advantages of LinkStar for SMART C-Band Broadband Service
1. Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation
Combined with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) and TCP acceleration features, makes LinkStar more efficient and faster than other TDMA systems. The combination automatically increases the speed of the return channel to give users the throughput needed, so even large multimedia files are quickly transmitted.
2. Bandwidth on Demand
Bandwidth on Demand (BOD) allows users to seamlessly increase bandwidth as it is needed, as long as it’s needed. BOD is ideal for VOIP applications as well as infrequent large file transfers.
3. Committed Information Rate
Committed Information Rate (CIR) mode provides users with near instantaneous availability of all the bandwidth in their SLA, ideal for guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) applications.
4. Slotted Aloha
Slotted Aloha enables low bandwidth applications to have immediate access to the network. This powerful feature minimizes latency and is particularly suited for transactional applications such as point-of-sale (POS), and automated teller machines (ATMs).
5. Turbo Coding and Optimized Spectral Shaping
Turbo Coding and Optimized Spectral Shaping on the return channels enables users to use our satellite bandwidth more efficiently and further increase return channel throughput.
6. DVB-based Architecture
DVB-based Architecture enables SMART and other satellite operators worldwide to build open-standard networks for IP data, Internet access, video streaming, telemedicine, voice over IP, or distance learning. For tailored requirement standardization, the LinkStar network offers a DVB-RCS compliant return channel with a simple software download.
7. Reduced Operating Costs
Reduced Operating Costs Remote Terminal software download feature upgrades networks without site visits, including full or partial conversion of the network to DVB-RCS. With reduced operating cost SMART is able to pass the cost saving as shown in SMART C-band pricing.
8. User Groups
User Groups enable us to logically group remote terminals to apply common operating parameters to members of the group. This powerful capability is ideally suited for SMART to manage multiple customers or classes of access, resulting to fair enjoyment of bandwidth to all subscribers.
9. IP Header Compression
IP Header Compression reduces the bandwidth required for a voice call by eliminating extraneous and redundant protocol information.
10. Maritime Operation
Maritime Operation for installation on moving platforms. Though originally designed for the maritime market, this feature adapts to any moving platform.
12. Six-level, two-way Quality of Service (QoS)
Six-level, two-way Quality of Service (QoS) offers you six queues at the scheduler level on each remote terminal. With it finer prioritization of user traffic based on profiles using the IP QoS feature is achieved.
13. DHCP Relay and VLAN Tagging
DHCP Relay and VLAN Tagging enabled SMART to offer VPN services to multiple customers from a single terminal. LinkStar networks support Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based IP Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). The network is able to provide end-to-end separation of customer traffic and a dynamic addressing scheme for the different VPN hosts behind remote terminals.
14. Optional HTTP Acceleration
Optional HTTP Acceleration boosts the speed of users web surfing experience. Using a pre-fetch proxy, LinkStar significantly reduces the time a user waits for HTML objects to appear on screen.
